as a registered agent). The project developed into a network of practicing
lawyers in all fifty states.

Here
are some facts you should know about a registered agent in the District
of Columbia:
"registered
agent," "statutory agent" and "resident agent"
are three names for the same thing: an agent authorized by a company
to receive documents and notices. (Since the three terms all refer
to a Resident
of the state acting as an AGENT,
we have coined the term "ragent" to include them
all).
Your DC registered
agent may be (1) a domestic company formed under District of Columbia
corporate law (2) a foreign corporation authorized to transact business
in DC or (3) an adult individual who resides in the District of Columbia.
It is important
to note that a District of Columbia registered agent must have
a District of Columbia street address rather than a post office box
and that the registered agent must sign a consent to be registered
agent and file it with the District of Columbia Dept. of Consumer
& Regulatory Affairs (DCRA). This residency requirement accounts
for the term "resident agent" in some jurisdictions. The
term "statutory agent" stresses this legislated mandate
in some states.
